Halfway through June!

Guess we've been busy because we haven't blogged for a while!

What's been happening? Social Studies topic on 'Disasters', New Zealand and worldwide - there seems to be something new on TV and in the papers every day about some terrible disaster! Currently it's still Christchurch's earthquakes and aftershocks but the volcano in Chile and resulting ash clouds are making news too - hard to believe they are grounding planes in New Zealand but that just goes to show how so many people can be affected by one event.

Tomorrow we are collecting the last of the "Cans for Christchurch" appeal food cans. Someone said, "I've already given," but I think we forget how long term these disasters are - I'd hate to be out of my home and relying on others all the time, let alone constantly suffering the stress of regular aftershocks.

Year 7 & 8 Dean, Mr Burden, leaves this weekend for 2 weeks to Scotland with the New Zealand over 30s national Touch Team. Good luck for your games and safe travel, Mr Burden! Our neighbouring classroom teacher and Maths/SOS 8FL teacher, Mr Manson, is also off school but for the rest of this term, as he joins the Otago Rugby squad and has to train! He will be replaced by Mr Beale from Week 7.

I had Queen's Birthday weekend over in Sydney, celebrating one of my best friend's birthdays (40!) with a few friends - great fun but very pressed for time! I just got back in the nick of time -  I'm glad the ash clouds didn't delay my flights!
