Sharing our poetry

Time to share some of the cool poems we have been writing lately!

We have been reading, writing and sharing both our own, and other poets' poems. Some of the types of we have written have been: haiku, cinquain, limerick, free verse, shape poems and the good old acrostic poem!

We actually started our poetry unit part way through last term with an early autumn walk around our beautiful school grounds, using our senses to: listen, see, hear, touch (taste?!) autumn at KV. I love the changing colours of autumn, scuffing through piles of crunchy brown, orange and golden leaves, listening to the waterfall and Kaikorai Stream bubbly away - 8FL students have written some wonderful descriptive poetry around this autumn theme. We will share some right here...very soon!

Grumpy Man Limerick by T.M
There was an grumpy bold old man
Who liked to sit on his ugly old van
Who liked to think if; He will ever get a gift
That's the ugly bold man.

My Leaf by M.E
My leaf is yellow with green and brown spots of like a rainbow frog
The shape of my leaf is like a mini maple leaf and it is half dried up
Its veins are barely noticeable and it makes the surface of the leaf as soft as a 6 week old babies bottom
it is hard and stiff because it is starting to rot
The smell of my leaf smells like rotting food -YUK!
So that's my leaf.

 Eagle Haiku by T.A
An eagle swooping
Flying down to get a feed
Leaving with a chip

Sky Hawk Haiku by J.I
Majestic sky hawk
Soaring through the true blue sky
Landing in a tree

Autumn by J. D
The water hits the rocks
At Kaikorai Valley College
The sun sets on the hall
